In 2019 my colleague Sarah, and I, were the first nurses in New Zealand to become Endocrine Clinical Nurse Specialists and have been working in this role at Waikato Hospital ever since. Endocrine nurses positively impact patient outcomes through clinical care, advocacy, education and research. We work collegially with Endocrine consultants and registrars and other health care providers. My role is mostly outpatient based (3-4 clinics per week), with some acute inpatient work, and Dynamic Testing oversight. I have been a registered nurse since 1990! In 2022 I completed my Post graduate Diploma in Health Science and extended my clinical role by becoming a RN prescriber. I am the current President of the Endocrine Nurses’ Society of Australasia (ENSA), past ENSA secretary, and a member of various other Endocrine groups, including the Federation of International Nurses in Endocrinology (FINE). I am passionate about growing the Endocrine nurse role and am an absolute advocate for providing the best health care, and support, for people living with Endocrine disorders.
