Carsten Alexander Wagner
Carsten A. Wagner studied medicine at the University of Tubingen (Germany) where he started to work with A. Busch and F. Lang on mechanisms of epithelial transport. After completing his medical dissertation, he trained further as postdoctoral fellow with G. Giebisch and J. Geibel at Yale University studying renal acid-base physiology. At the University of Zurich (Switzerland) he worked with H. Murer, received his Habilitation, and is now a professor of Physiology and director of the institute at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, with his main research interests in the field of acid-base and phosphate homeostasis in health and disease. He is also the editor of Pflügers Archiv, the oldest publishing journal in Physiology. He published more than 350 articles and reviews in peer-reviewed journals. For his work, he received several national and international awards.
