Objectives: 

1. To recognize the metabolic pathways and hormonal interactions necessary to maintain normal glucose homeostasis
2. To identify the various etiology of non-diabetic hypoglycemia
3. To recognize the steps necessary in the evaluation of the patient with hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia is a metabolic emergency that requires a systematic approach to identify its underlying cause and guide targeted treatment, thereby preventing recurrent episodes.  This lecture will use case-based discussions to illustrate which patients require evaluation for hypoglycemia, what diagnostic tests should be performed, and how to interpret the results.
